PPACA pusher paraphrased: You’re hoodwinked and stupid

A big pusher of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) admitted in so many words Americans were hoodwinked by Democrats who shoved the bill through via legislative trickery. What’s more the pusher thinks Americans are stupid.

I don’t think American voters are stupid. I do think too many of them trusted the left on the healthcare issue, though. That trust, unfortunately, was based on a series of lies.

During a TV interview before the 2012 elections, President Obama told fellow Democrat George Stephanopoulos “For us to say that you’ve got to take a responsibility to get health insurance is absolutely not a tax increase.”

By the time the Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of the mandate under Congress’ taxing powers, many Americans realized they’d been lied to way beyond the You can keep your doctor and your health insurance fabrication. Many missed the basic message of this tax. Now the government will tax you for lack of activity.

Others didn’t realize it and left the same leadership in place in the Senate and the White House. The president was sly enough to hold off changes, however, and it will be during the 2015 tax season that many Americans will feel the nasty bite of a bill I believe will plague Democrats for a very long time.

The PPACA pusher—Jonathan Gruber—is another of those political academics whose life work has delivered tons of taxpayer money to his wallet. Gruber has long been one of the darlings of leftwing healthcare reformers although he has never worked in a healthcare facility, never run a business (except the one in his pocket), and is most definitely a world apart from you and me.

I wish US taxpayers could file a class action lawsuit against some of these leftwing universities who turn out navel gazers aiming to separate our dollars from our wallets and wreak havoc on our personal economies. The diploma mill in government studies has done us no favors.

It must be noted that Dems did look out for some of their own. The president illicitly rewrote portions of the bill in the Executive Office. He gave waivers to labor unions. He delayed the so-called ‘Cadillac Tax’ because he knew it would anger union employees. He delayed the employer mandate, leaving us on the hook to force-purchase a product while giving employers a pass. Other taxes that would have funded the bill were gutted.

How did Americans fall for the bait-and-switch popularly called Obamacare?

Gruber summed up the deception on Obamacare in what appeared to be a panel discussion. He said, “This bill was written in a tortured way to make sure the CBO [Congressional Budget Office] did not score the mandate as taxes. If CBO scored the mandate as taxes, the bill dies. It’s written to do that.”

Gruber also said it was written so healthy people pay in and sick people get money. He implied if that been known it wouldn’t have passed.

Then this elitist whose actions will result in hardship for the middle class said this:

“Lack of transparency is a huge political advantage. Basically call it the stupidity of the American voter or whatever. That was really critical to getting the thing to pass.”

Gruber was a key force in the president’s health tax bill, pushing Obamacare at the same time he was raking in hundreds of thousands of dollars in federal contracts for his “technical assistance.” That shouldn’t really shock us. We see our tax dollars line the pockets of educated idiots every day.

Obamacare is before the Supreme Court again, this time over the issues of subsidies for taxpayers in states who chose not to set up healthcare exchanges. The bill as written stipulates subsidies for states that set up exchanges. The language in the bill is crystal clear on that point. Thus, if you don’t live in a state setting up exchanges, you don’t technically qualify for subsidies and that is courtesy of the Democrats who wrote the bill.

Left of center elitists really do think you’re stupid. The joke was on those elitists when voters went to the ballot box in November, however. We’re not so stupid after all.
