Podesta power: Smoke and mirrors for Hillary, from servers to lobbying

Few politicos have been as influential on Bill and Hillary Clinton as John Podesta. Podesta chairs Mrs. Clinton’s latest campaign. His life’s work has been involvement in government, and his tactics and policies have impacted the lives of every American. His specialty is the smoke and mirrors strategy, and it spans the political spectrum from Mrs. Clinton’s servers to Podesta’s lobbying ties.

Although he has given speeches urging government to be more transparent and bemoaning “excessive secrecy”, his actions reflect the opposite of what he preaches.

Podesta and Mrs. Clinton are running an operation based on rhetoric and falsehoods.

Podesta’s long involvement in government, and his ties to a powerful lobby group in Washington, reflect exactly what GOP nominee Donald Trump is fighting besides the fight he’s had to wage against status quo powers on his side of the aisle who see Mrs. Clinton as a means of keeping the gravy grain running.

The one-time lobbyist, staffer to Bill Clinton and insider in President Barack Obama’s White House has friends in big media. For example,an article at Bloomberg published after Obama took Podesta aboard in 2013 left out something important. The article includes bio info on Podesta but doesn’t mention he helped co-found that powerful lobby firm dubbed Washington’s fourth largest by the Dem-friendly magazine Time.

Why would Bloomberg’s account omit those lobbying ties? Obama promised Americans lobbyists wouldn’t be part of his administration. One of many promises gone up in smoke.

The lobby firm is now run by Podesta’s brother. The firm gained attention in 2016 for dealings with a bank allegedly “tied to terrorism” said The Daily Caller:

“Islami Bank Bangladesh Ltd., which was founded in 1983, paid The Podesta Group $390,000 starting last year to lobby the Senate and House on “international banking issues,” according to disclosure forms filed with the Senate.”

When the ‘Panama Papers’ leak broke, The Washington Free Beacon said the Podesta firm was linked to disclosures on a Russian bank tied to scandals involving “secret financial dealings” benefiting intimates of Russia president Vladimir Putin.

Podesta has served Mrs. Clinton well in the 2016 cycle. She’s ahead in most polls. Media have helped wield those polls as weapons, coming close to anointing her as president just as the Democrats’ national committee anointed her their nominee by dismissing the voices of millions of their voters.

Media are serving Mrs. Clinton well.

She has repeatedly lied about her email practices and multiple personal servers she used as secretary of state. Mrs. Clinton even claimed past secretaries did the same thing she did. They didn’t. Even left of center fact checkers had to call her out on that one. PolitiFact admitted, “[T]here’s a big difference between a private account, which is generally free and simple to start, and a private server, which requires a more elaborate setup.”

Media still doggedly say Mrs. Clinton had one server. That is also a lie. There was more than one as FBI director James Comey stated, and email software was removed, making it very difficult to retrieve useful information:

“Secretary Clinton used several different servers and administrators of those servers during her four years at the State Department, and used numerous mobile devices to view and send e-mail on that personal domainwhen one of Secretary Clinton’s original personal servers was decommissioned in 2013, the e-mail software was removed. Doing that didn’t remove the e-mail content, but it was like removing the frame from a huge finished jigsaw puzzle and dumping the pieces on the floor.”

So much for Podesta’s claims about the pitfalls of government secrecy. Up in smoke.

Should Mrs. Clinton become Clinton the 2nd and receive the keys to the US kingdom, nothing will change. Podesta has long been the get-around-Congress guru for Democrats and there’s no way an old dog will change his habits.

As Discover the Networks pointed out on Podesta:

“In short, Podesta showed the Clintons that they could gain by force what they might fail to achieve through legislation. “Stroke of the pen. Law of the land. Kind of cool,” quipped White House aide Paul Begala to The New York Times on July 5, 1998, in response to questions about the Clintons’ growing disdain for the will of Congress.”

Thus, an expert lobbyist whose former firm has ties to Putin insiders and whose approach to government is to ignore the will of the people by coming up with ways to ignore the power of Congress is the guiding star for the Democrats’ candidate for president.

Should Democrats prevail in November, nothing will change for any of us unless we’re political insiders of value to the Clinton apparatchik whose construction Podesta played a major part in.

As we inch our way towards November, expect campaign tactics to get nastier and the propaganda machine to spin fulltime. Expect trolls on social media who claim to be #NeverTrump Republicans but in fact are likely Democrats aiding Hillary Clinton. Expect media to continue to run rumors, half-truths and outright lies in an effort to continue what the Clintons started with many of the same cronies in the 1990s. Expect Podesta blows beneath the belt and tactics worthy of a banana republic demagogue.

Whether Republicans can for the first time in decades rise to help Trump fight this war is unknown. Should we choose not to do that, all we will have left of the USA as we know it will be smoke and mirrors.
